Presenting 6G-XR Multimedia Use Cases at “Media beyond 5G” Joint Workshop

The 6G-IA and 5G-MAG Joint Workshop on “Media Beyond 5G – Insights from European Projects“ on 13 May 2024 provided an opportunity to present insights on multimedia use cases within 6G SNS projects and have an open discussion on features and technology required for future multimedia communications in 6G networks.

Roberto Viola (Vicomtech) talked about real-time holographic communications use cases and the research activities carried out in the 6G-XR project to enhance network control plane and user plane toward 6G. On the control plane, the evolution of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) will provide holographic communications as an evolved service integrated in 6G. While considering the user plane, the use of Cloud-native multimedia functions deployed at the Edge and the integration with Network Monitoring and APIs will allow the joint orchestration of the network and the XR services.
