6G-XR Consortium Meets in Košice

On May 13–14, 2025, the 6G-XR consortium gathered in person for a two-day face-to-face meeting in the Slovakian city of Košice, graciously hosted by project partner MATSUKO at Kasárne Kulturpark. This timely gathering brought together key project partners to align on technical progress, validation plans, and the upcoming final stretch of the project.
With the project now in its third and final year, the Košice meeting was an important milestone for finalising ongoing work packages, planning the final public event, and deepening collaboration across the consortium. The setting also allowed for live demonstrations, informal networking, and a strong sense of shared momentum.
Highlights from the Meeting
The two days were packed with updates and strategic discussions across the project’s core technical work packages:
- Finalisation of key developments in edge federation, 3D digital twin technologies, energy measurement frameworks, and ORAN-enabled XR slicing.
- XR enablers under were reviewed in detail, including advancements in multi-sensor capture systems, remote rendering, adaptive delivery over the cloud continuum, and media interaction support.
- Discussions focused on orchestration, energy-aware service deployment, and use case validation planning—including preparations for demonstrations at EuCNC 2025 and the 6G-XR Impact Day.
- Addressing Open Call progress and administrative matters, including the finalisation of Open Call 2 administration and the early implementation steps of Open Call 3.
- A dedicated discussion was held for Use Case, KPI, and KVI validation plans, aligning expectations and ensuring measurable impact as the project enters its final stages.
- The meeting also included updates on 6G-XR’s contribution to standardisation, review responses, and coordination with the SNS JU working groups.

The meeting also provided the opportunity for partners to experience first-hand MATSUKO’s holographic communication demo, one of the project’s most recognisable technological showcases.

Looking Ahead
One of the key outcomes of the Košice meeting was the formal decision to organise the 6G-XR Impact Day, the project’s final public event, to be held on 28 October 2025 in Madrid. This event will mark the culmination of the project’s work, showcasing results, live demos, and stakeholder engagement activities.
In addition to technical progress, the meeting reaffirmed the consortium’s commitment to collaborative validation, cross-node experimentation, and knowledge sharing—critical pillars for supporting next-generation XR services in the 6G era.
