6G Test Network Finland Workshop Showcases 6G-XR Innovations

Espoo, 26 September 2024

The 6G Test Network Finland (6GTNF) hosted a highly successful workshop, bringing together over 100 participants from academia and industry. VTT and the University of Oulu (UOULU) made significant contributions to the event, showcasing the advancements in the 6G-XR project, use cases, and research infrastructure, while also promoting the upcoming Open Call 3.

At the workshop, UOULU presented a live demo of their innovative 3D Collaborative Digital Twins, which had already garnered attention earlier this summer at the EuCNC conference in Antwerp. This demo continued to attract significant interest at the 6G-XR booth, where numerous attendees engaged in discussions about the project’s potential for vertical trials and its contribution to the ongoing 6GTNF ecosystem.

6GTNF is dedicated to advancing Beyond 5G (B5G) and 6G technologies through the creation of a multi-site 6G test network and fostering an ecosystem of collaboration. The aim of this co-operative workshop was to share the latest research results from key projects such as 6GTNF and highlight the opportunities for utilizing the 5G/6GTNF test network for further development. VTT and UOULU’s participation underscored the importance of these testbeds in accelerating research and innovation in 6G and beyond.

“We were pleased to see so much interest in the 6G-XR project, particularly in its potential for enabling vertical trials in upcoming Open Call 3. The discussions we had with participants were fruitful, and the enthusiasm for our research infrastructure shows great promise for the future of 6G development.”
– Jarno Pinola, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland
