6G-XR Partners Achieve Milestone in Holographic Communication Integration
The 6G-XR project proudly announces the successful integration of Holographic Calls into smartphone dialers by Telefónica, Ericsson, and MATSUKO. This innovative Proof-of-Concept (PoC) demonstrates how IMS Data Channel technology can deliver advanced communication capabilities seamlessly within existing smartphone applications.
The PoC allows users to make holographic calls directly from the dialer of compatible smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S series. By capturing and transmitting a caller’s face and torso as a real-time hologram, this project highlights the future of immersive communication.
Key contributions from partners include:
- Telefónica: Coordination and service provision.
- Ericsson: Provision of IMS infrastructure.
- MATSUKO: Advanced holographic technology.
The demonstration successfully transmitted a one-way hologram with two-way audio, integrated into the native smartphone dialer.
Despite significant achievements, challenges remain, such as standardizing interfaces and improving synchronization between audio and holographic video. Moving forward, the partners are dedicated to enhancing user experience, quality of holograms, and exploring two-way holographic calls.
